Remembrance Day
Tuesday Nov. 11, 2014
Here are a few photos taken during the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Wells Legion. Reba Escott did a great job of leading the crowd through O' Canada and Dianne Nysven was fabulous as the Host of the Ceremony. Also, the Wells-Barkerville school children sang "In Flanders Fields," and provided a lovely poster to hang in the Legion. Decorations were also made by the Huckleberry Daycare Pre-school children! After the service there was an excellent selection of tasty food and treats available, gobbled up by all. Furthermore, some new members were signed-up!! Overall, it was an excellent Remembrance Day!
B.C. Family Day
Monday Feb. 9, 2015
We attempted to host a Family Day at the Legion in conjunction with the BC Family Day holiday. Dinner that night was Homemade Macaroni and Cheese with Ham, Cesar Salad, and Garlic Bread. The movie for the kids was "The Little Rascals." For those that did attend, fun was had!
We are hoping to have Legion Family Day be a regular event once a month. There will be games and activities followed by dinner as well as a movie for the kids.
First Responders Appreciation Night
Friday Feb. 27, 2015
The Legion was honoured to see local first responders participating in our event.
The Legion is an organization dedicated to the recognition of the courage and dedication of the first responders who serve and safeguard our community and it’s residents. It was a privilege to be able to host this event in celebration of your commitment.
Jason and Bryce - of our R.C.M.P detachment, Dianne and Jodi - of our local Ambulance Station, and Heather, Carson, and Candice - representing our Volunteer Fire Department, were present to receive a Certificate of Appreciation for services rendered to the Community of Wells, BC. Thank-you for your service!
Legion Family Day and Easter Dinner
Friday April 3, 2015
Once again the Wells Legion hosted its Annual Easter Dinner by donation. We had a great turn-out!!
The Easter Bunny was at the Legion and set up a nice Egg Hunt for the kids and then hung around to visit with everyone before he had to leave to continue his Easter duties. There was also a face-painting station set up for the kids...athough that didn't stop the adults from joining in on the fun too.
We need to mention a special thank-you to Dianne Nysven for preparing such a fabulous Easter Dinner!
Fundraiser Cheque Presentation
Monday May 4, 2015
The Legion was honoured to present Dennis Manuel with a cheque for $585.00 at our May General Meeting.
The money was raised through a Dinner Campaign at the Wells Legion in which all profits from their regularly held Friday Night Dinners were put aside to donate to Wanda and Dennis Manuel. Wanda has been dealing with health issues that require the couple to travel to and from Prince George and Vancouver frequently. Dennis and Wanda are valued members of the Community of Wells and we are pleased at how successful our fundraising effort was.
Thank-you to everyone who donated their time to cook meals this month, and to all the people who came out to eat!
Legion Day and BBQ
Friday June 26, 2015
We had a moderate turn-out for our first Legion Day open house at Branch #128. We raised $10.00 for Toonie for Troops and our by donation dinner (which had a much larger turn-out) helped us to raise $738.16 for HopeAir. Overall it was a successful event at the Wells Legion.
The Wells Elementary School students planted a lovely Garden of Rembrance around the Legion Cenotaph Stone and along the walkway to the entrance. Mayor Robin Sharp attendand to help the students reveal their hard work to beautify the community. The Legion preesented the students with a thank-you gift of a poppy suncatcher for at the school.
There were 3 booths set up in the Legion with information on what the Royal Canadian Legion is/does, Membership, and the Toonies for Troops fundraising campaign.
Stevie Brown Memorial Fishing Derby
September 5 - 7, 2015
The annual fishing derby had a great turn out this year! The weather was co-operative (for the most part) and the fish were biting. There was coffee and a BBQ on site to keep those fishing fueled for their task!
A lot of prizes were handed out at the end of the derby, including 1st place in the Adult category going to Shawna Nysven and 1st place in the Children category going to James Escott.
AND to top it all off Shaw Cable came to do a piece on the Fishing Derby! You can watch it here.
